The energy efficient homes of Örgryte Torp are built in a highly attractive location. They offer both a good life and a good deed, since several social sustainability measures are part of the project.
Skanska has built 87 apartments and 24 townhouses close to downtown Gothenburg, bordering on a large recreation area with hiking facilities, lakes and forest.
One important sustainability focus is contributing to Gothenburg’s high ambitions regarding accessible art in urban environments. Skanska arranged a competition where 80 artists submitted artwork to decorate the block. To promote participation, influence and well-being, home buyers were invited to take part in appointing the winner. As a result, a bronze statue and glass art by the entrance doors give the neighbourhood a unique identity and enrich the city in the long term.
Also, Skanska promoted social inclusion during the production phase. We offered internships and apprenticeships to unemployed individuals, study tours to the construction site and inspirational lectures in schools.
